Frequently Asked Questions
What can I do with Alpine?
Alpine is a payment platform that allows users to send donation messages to their favorite content creators without having to worry about censorship. What's unique about Alpine, being a Web3 application, is that donation transactions are facilitated on the blockchain, rather than a subjective 3rd party platform. With Alpine you can have full control of the funds in your wallet.
Aside from serving as a platform for sending donations to other users, which already exists in some capacity in the world of crypto, Alpine adds a user friendly social element. Rather than sending tokens to a hard to remember wallet address, users send donations with personalized messages to other users with unique usernames.
Content creators will be able to link their social media accounts to make it easier for followers to find them on other platforms. Inversely, users from those platforms will be able to find their favorite creators on Alpine and show their appreciation with donations.
Can I use Alpine as a streamer?
Yes you can. In fact, streamers and their audiences represent a significant portion of our target user base. Currently, as a streamer you will need to have Alpine open on the donations page in order to read donations, but as Alpine is still a work in progress, we intend to add support in the near future for different streaming APIs that will allow donation messages to be displayed on stream, much in the same way as with fiat alternatives. Stay tuned!
What do I need in order to use Alpine?
The foundation of the Alpine dApp is the Keplr wallet. Keplr is a wallet for the IBC ecosystem that can be installed as a browser extension. It supports many IBC tokens including OSMO, the primary currency used on Alpine.
Once you've installed Keplr and set up your wallet, you will need some OSMO balance (0.1 OSMO should be sufficient) to initially connect your wallet to Alpine and save your username. (NOTE: your username for a particular wallet is permanent, you will not be able to change it once your save your profile)
How do I obtain OSMO?
There are a few options available when it comes to obtaining Osmosis tokens. The first option we recommend is to use Kado to purchase OSMO, as long as Kado is supported in your Country/State. With a Kado account, you can buy OSMO that will be sent directly to your Keplr wallet which you can immediately use with Alpine. You can access Kado on Alpine by hitting the Buy/Sell button.
If you are not able to use Kado to purchase OSMO, your other option would be to purchase OSMO on Coinbase and send the purchased tokens to your Keplr wallet's OSMO address.
The third and final way to get OSMO is swapping some other cryptocurrency in your possession for OSMO. If you own IBC tokens, you can use one of several DEX's in the Cosmoverse to quickly swap for OSMO. Otherwise, your other option is using Coinbase to swap any other asset for OSMO and finally sending it to your Keplr wallet.
Can I cash out my wallet balance?
Yes, by hitting the Buy/Sell button and going to the "Sell" tab, you can use Kado to withdraw your OSMO assets to USD into your bank account or credit/debit card.
Is there a processing fee in Alpine?
Yes, Alpine implements a 3% fee for all donations. This fee is automatically debited from donations before the recipient receives the funds.
